Jimmerson accepts superintendent job at West Branch

Just over a week after Dike-New Hartford Superintendent Larry Hunt announced his intention to assume leadership of the Anamosa school district in eastern Iowa, AGWSR’s Marty Jimmerson will make a similar move to West Branch, a town of just over 2,300 residents not far from Iowa City.

Jimmerson, an Alta native, has served as the chief administrator at AGWSR for the last four years, and he previously held principal jobs at St. Ansgar and Ballard of Huxley. He has three children, including twin daughters who graduated from high school in 2017.

His new community, situated along the border between Johnson and Cedar Counties, is perhaps best known as the birthplace of U.S. President Herbert Hoover, and according to the most recent available figures, the West Branch district currently serves approximately 777 students, compared to 578 at AGWSR. West Branch’s enrollment has remained relatively steady over the last decade, while AGWSR experienced a rather dramatic dip down to just over 500 students before rebounding over the last few years.

At press time, Jimmerson, who was also named a finalist for the superintendent position in Independence earlier this year, had not responded to a request for comment.
