BEAMAN – BCLUW baseball head coach Matt Zoske figured AGWSR had already gotten their one good inning out of the way on Wednesday night.
Zoske wasn’t sure when the Comets would have their good inning, but as it turned out, it came just in time.
Calob Keller capped a furious comeback by BCLUW in the seventh inning, triumphing 7-6 as the Comets maintained a tight grip on the No. 2 spot in the NICL West.
BCLUW erased a 6-1 deficit in the final frame, scoring four of their six runs in the inning when the Comets (11-8, 7-2 NICL West) were down to their last out.
“We had been hitting some balls hard but just hadn’t pushed much across the plate,” Zoske said. “We just needed to keep doing what we were supposed to do.”
Keller finished 3 for 3 at the plate with two runs batted in, and also pitched six innings to start the game for the Comets, striking out five with five walks and five earned runs on nine hits. Blake Mann drove in two runs and Logan Mann and Troy Dolphin contributed RBI singles in the pivotal seventh inning.
Stubbe led the Cougar offense with two RBI as part of a big 5-run third inning for the Cougars (5-6, 4-5), with Nate Karsjens and Alex Hames driving in a run as well. Hames, Karsjens and Joe Wiarda each collected two hits at the plate.
