Lindeman, Verhulst earn all-state honors

A pair of local girls’ basketball players have been honored as members of a pair of all-state teams.
Grundy Center junior Katie Lindeman was named Class 2A third-team all-state by both the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association (IGCA) and the Iowa Newspaper Association (INA) while Dike-New Hartford senior Olivia Verhulst was cited on the IGCA’s 2A all-state third team.
Lindeman led the NICL West and ranked eighth in Class 2A with 18.3 points per game. The junior hit 33 3-pointers and shot 74.5 percent from the free-throw line. She also recorded 171 rebounds and 68 steals.
Verhulst was the standout on a balanced D-NH team that had four players average between 9 and 11 points per game. The guard averaged 10.4 points per game while hitting a team-high 28 3-pointers and shooting 43 percent from the field overall. She shot 73 percent from the foul line and dished out 67 assists while collecting 40 steals.
