A Conrad man who has worked with both the Beaman-Conrad Emergency Response Team (BCERTs) and the Marshalltown Area Paramedic Service (MAPS) recently had his paramedic’s license revoked after a decision was handed down from the Iowa Department of Public Health.

Gary Krause became the subject of an IDPH investigation in the aftermath of an incident that occurred on Oct. 15, 2014, at the VA Clinic in Marshalltown, when he and his partner were dispatched to transport a post-seizure patient to the local hospital. According to public documents released by the IDPH, the patient continued to struggle and became more agitated after being placed in the ambulance.

Two firefighters and Krause’s partner tried to restrain the patient so that he could start an IV, and it was during this time that all three witnesses observed Krause climbing on top of the patient and placing both of his hands around the patient’s throat for approximately 20 seconds.
