Four local health care officials asked the board of supervisors to reclaim management of Grundy County’s public health department during Monday morning’s regular meeting.

“The main reason I’m looking at this is that we really want Grundy County Public Health to be something that’s sustainable for the community,” Unitypoint at Home Vice President for Care Operations Paula Geise said.

In recent years, Unitypoint at Home has handled the department, which is housed out of the annex building, but the administrative costs have been going to the private nonprofit corporation.

“We’re basically giving money away that could be used for services… That money is not staying in our community,” GCPH Director Cassie Frost said. “At the end of the day, there’s no ill will. It’s just so that everyone can get what they need, and it’s sustainable.”
