A Marshalltown man who was convicted of felony burglary in Grundy County in 2012 has recently been charged with his sixth probation violation after allegedly pouring urine on a female victim and hitting her over the head with a bedpan on August 19.

Michael Shawn Edwards, age 42, has been charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Mental Illness or Injury in Marshall County for the aforementioned incident, and in 2016, he was reported on charges of False Imprisonment and Obstruction of Emergency Communication, for which he received a two day purge jail sentence. A judge originally granted Edwards a deferred judgment for the burglary conviction, but he has since received a five-year suspended prison sentence after a 2014 violation.

Public defender Benjamin Stansberry has been appointed to represent Edwards, and Stansberry appeared in court on October 2. Edwards has pled not guilty to the Marshall County charges, and a jury trial is scheduled for October 19. The original violation occurred in 2011, when Edwards entered the property of Charles Clapsaddle in the southwest corner of rural Grundy County between Conrad and Liscomb without permission, stole materials and sold them at a scrap yard in Marshalltown.
