Mid-Iowa selects Grundy County location for expansion

After meeting with the board of directors last week, Mid-Iowa Cooperative CEO Mike Kinley formally announced that the company has chosen a location in Grundy County just south of The Mill on Highway 14 for its latest expansion project, a large grain storage facility.

Construction on the elevator, with a projected holding capacity of 4,000,000 bushels for corn and soybeans, could cost up to $14 million and will add to Mid-Iowa’s portfolio of sites in eight communities—Beaman, Conrad (where the headquarters is located), Garwin, Gladbrook, Green Mountain, Haverhill, Liscomb, Whitten and the Midway, which was constructed in 2012 north of Toledo and is currently the company’s newest facility. According to Kinley, the decision represents a strategic attempt to better serve the markets in the northern Grundy County corridor.

“When you go up to that area and look around that area, there are elevators, but a lot of producers have to do business directly with processors,” he said. “In the fall, there’s a great need for storage, so that was the reason we chose that (location). It’s the greatest overall benefit to the producers.”
