Mobile food pantry helps locals in need

GRUNDY CENTER – The First Baptist Church of Grundy Center recently became the first outlet in the area to host a free, mobile food pantry from Eden’s Eats – a project started by a local youngster.
Nine-year-old Eden Davis – daughter of Nick and Kristle Davis – attends Timothy Christian School in Wellsburg, and came up with the idea for Eden’s Eats after realizing how many people, all over the place, are going hungry.
Her solution is simple – a series of free, mobile food pantries set up in different locations, where anyone who has a need can take what they like at any time.
The first pantry in Grundy Center was launched earlier this summer at the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center, after being chosen as a mission project by the Vacation Bible School students.
Brenda Hakanson, administrative assistant with the church, said the church wanted to focus on a local project for their mission this year, and when the VBS students heard about Eden’s Eats, they jumped on board right away.
“We just think this is a really great way to get the ball rolling to help those in the community that need help,” she said.
Currently, the pantry is set up in the west entryway of the church, and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The pantry has no income requirements, no forms to fill out, and no questions asked. Those in need may simply take what they need, and anyone wishing to help out can donate non-perishable food items to the pantry as well.
