New mural in progress behind Stylish Living

Two local women are leading the initiative to bring more public art to town, and brighten up the buildings and alleyways of Grundy Center.

Lori Grave and Steph Larson got to work on their second mural behind Larson’s Stylish Living building on Tuesday afternoon, taking advantage of the spring weather to spend the day painting.

Their new mural will depict a host of colorful flowers on the back of the formerly drab, stucco building. Next to their new mural is the mural they painted last year, which features a pair of bright orange Monarch wings that locals have already been using for fun photoshoots.

Grave and Larson say they’re passionate about art, and bringing it to Grundy Center in the hopes that something unique like this will draw more people to town.

“Our hope is that we can get more people on board and hopefully if we get enough people to do some murals or street art of their own, it will help draw people to town,” Grave said. “We want to show people that Grundy Center isn’t just a regular old small town, we want to show them we’re creative and artsy and this is just one way to do that.”
