Out with a bang: Demolition crew levels former First Baptist Church

GRUNDY CENTER – The atmosphere around the demolition site was bittersweet as bystanders crowded around the former First Baptist Church to bid goodbye to one of Grundy Center’s oldest structures.
The historic church, which was built in 1918, was just shy of reaching its 100th year when workers from Benton’s Sand and Gravel out of Cedar Falls began demolition on Monday afternoon.
Onlookers young and old stopped for a moment to pay their respects.
