Rebels claim Victory Bell with victory over Spartans

GLADBROOK – Gladbrook-Reinbeck engineered a decisive 49-3 win over Grundy Center Friday night, evening the score at 43-43-9 in a local rivalry 95 years in the making. With the win the Rebels maintain sole possession of the top spot in District A-4, and retain their claim to the coveted Victory Bell for another year. The win over the Spartans was the seventh in a row for G-R, and brings their average margin of victory in this season’s wins to 38 points.
“It was a lot of fun for our kids to come out and get the victory over GC,” Rebel head coach John Olson said. “We struggled at times making tackles on defense and handling the ball on offense with three fumbles, but overall as the game went along we improved and played much better in the second half. Our kids were very excited to win the ‘Battle of the Bell’.”
