Rebels disrupt Spartan boys

REINBECK – The G-R boys overcame cold shooting at the start of last Tuesday's game for a 54-41 win over Grundy Center in Reinbeck.

The Spartans led 14-12 after the first quarter, but the Rebels were able to rally to a 22-17 halftime lead, in part through G-R's defensive efforts.

The Rebels swiped 18 steals on Tuesday, led by Jackson Kiburis' seven steals and Eli Thede's six steals. Kiburis added a game-high 25 points on 7-of-17 shooting and led the Rebels in rebounds with eight boards. Thede scored 13 points and Dylan Riffey put in 11 points.

"Eli was the catalyst in that 2nd quarter, playing lots of defense, getting lots of pressure," G-R head coach Scott Kiburis said. "He had a great game defensively, and we don't always look to him offensively but he hit a couple shots in the second quarter and he just creates havoc by playing hard and covering the whole area."
