Richard ‘Dick’ Juhl

DIKE — Richard ‘Dick’ Juhl, 89, of Dike, passed away Nov. 26, 2024 at Parkview Manor Nursing home. 

Funeral were Tuesday, Dec. 3 at Fredsville Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Interment was at Fredsville Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Dick was born on Nov. 26, 1935, in Cedar Falls to Robert and Grace (Hill) Juhl. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1956, married his college sweetheart, Joann Pohl, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in 1958, received his BA degree from IA State Teachers College in 1961 and his master’s degree from Western New Mexico University in 1970. Dick taught for one year at Havelock School before coming to Dike High School in 1962 where he taught Industrial Arts and Technology, Drivers Education and coached wrestling, track and field and cross-country for more than 30 years. He retired in 1995. 

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joann, daughter Connie (Dan) Vella of Canton, Michigan, son David (Julie) Juhl of Des Moines, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Juhl of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren: Danielle (Billy) Etienne, Derek (Julia) Giudici, Mason (Lindsay) Juhl, Tyler Juhl (Kortney Hart), Hannah (Vinny) Pallini, four great-grandchildren, and brother, Ray (Paulette) of Bakersfield, California. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Ron & Don) and son, Michael.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the family or to the DNH Dollars for Scholars program (dnhcsd.org), designated in Dick’s name, for the benefit of
