Rock of Ages: GCHS students set to perform 80s hits for this year’s school musical

GRUNDY CENTER – For those who like to rock, there’s good news. Students at Grundy Center High School are bringing 80’s glam rock, in all of it’s greatness, to the stage for this year’s school musical: Rock of Ages.
Emily Boquet, vocal music and drama director, says students have been hard at work since the beginning of the school year to bring the audience a show that will blow them away.
“We are extremely excited to present "Rock of Ages" High School Edition to our community and beyond as the first school in Iowa to perform this wildly popular musical experience,” Boquet said. “The adaptation for students maintains the hilarious script of the Broadway show, and more importantly, all the hard rockin' 80s music everyone loves.”
But this isn’t just any old show.
Audience members will get to be a part of the show, and are encouraged to come to “Rock of Ages” dressed in their favorite 80s band tee, or better yet, in full 80’s costume.
"It is truly an experience, not just a show,” she said. “And there are so many colorful characters sure to make your sides hurt from laughter.”
The group will be performing hits from the most rocking decade, including: Sister Christian, We Built This City, We're Not Gunna Take It, More Than Words, Dead or Alive, Waiting For Girl Like You, The Final Countdown, Here I Go Again, Every Rose Has It's Thorn, Don't Stop Believin' and more.
There 34 students that make up the cast and crew of the production.
The cast includes: Cade Rohler as Lonny, Chloe Anderson as Sherrie, Aaron Havens as Drew, Brady North as Dennis, Amber Laube as Regina, Jordan Hook as Stacee Jax, Emily Ehrig as Hilda, Austyn Pinkna as Frankie, Sabrina Mast as Justice, Noah Boquet as the Mayor, and more.
The production will have two showings: one on Friday, November 17 at 7 p.m. and another on Sunday, November 19 at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for students. Doors will open one hour before the show.
