School board OK’s alternative program restructure

GRUNDY CENTER – During last week’s Grundy Center School Board meeting, board members approved a plan to revamp and restructure the alternative school program.
Currently, the program is housed out of the Western Outreach Center, where students are taught by instructor Beth Bockes.
Changes to the program will move these students into the High School, where they will take up residence in the current Spanish Room.
Alternative school instructor Beth Bockes will move to the High School full-time as the Director of the Learning Center, where she will continue her work with at-risk and alternative students.
The restructure plan also includes the hiring of a para-educator, who will be in the room full-time to help with one-on-one situational learning and students with behavioral problems. Per the plan, there will also be two certified teachers in the room who, at various times, could work with students in a small group setting to accomplish academic work.
