Second-half improvement, but GC/G-R boys fall to Go-Hawks (PHOTOS)

REINBECK – The first 40 minutes were going to be too much to overcome.

But Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys soccer showed improvement in the second half with Waverly-Shell Rock, leaving some positives for the GC/G-R boys in an otherwise difficult 5-2 drubbing by the Go-Hawks.

An early Aiden Wyatt goal put GC/G-R ahead in the first seven minutes, but W-SR tied the game back up nearly a minute later on a Dylan Eggleston penalty kick, the first of five unanswered goals for the Go-Hawks.

"I've noticed with this group, the first 20 minutes we do really well and then we seem to get a little tired," GC/G-R head coach Jon Dinsdale said. "We just had lapses there. (The Go-Hawks) are a good team but our communication and ball control was not very good. The second half was more of a 50-50 type of game in terms of ball control between teams.

"I told the guys at halftime, don't give up, show them what you've got, as long as we get better in that second half, and I think we did. That's all I care about right now."
