GRUNDY CENTER - The outcome was decided early, only the final score was left to be determined here Friday as Grundy Center routed the South Hardin girls’ basketball team.

The top-ranked in Class 2A Spartans wrapped-up an unbeaten North Iowa Cedar League West Conference campaign, trouncing the Tigers, 79-10.

Grundy Center built a first-quarter lead of 28-0, ultimately scoring the game's first 35 points and owning an amazing 55-1 halftime advantage.

The Spartans buried six three-point goals in the opening eight minutes, including five straight to start and led 15-0 with 3:05 left in the first. Senior standout Hailey Wallis sparked the early scoring spree as she made four of the six 3-pointers and netted 18 points. Wallis would end with a game-high 32, matching her career-best. Sarah Lindeman hit the first of the five-straight 3-pointers, followed by Zinkula and Wallis' hat trick.

“Hailey had a pretty hot hand," Grundy Center coach Matt Lindeman said. She can have nights like this and really made it look pretty easy."

Grundy drilled another four three-balls in the second and ended with 11 3-pointers.

“One of the things we set out to do was win the NICL West. We make winning the conference a big deal and to win it by going undefeated and in the way we did sets this team apart. We also went 12-0 when Hailey, Brooke (Flater) and Maddie (McMartin) were freshmen,” said Lindeman.
