Spartans down West Marshall, split at Cedar Falls tournament

GRUNDY CENTER — Grundy Center extended its conference winning streak last Tuesday before going 2-2 at the Cedar Falls Tournament Saturday, with both losses coming to highly-ranked teams.
The Spartans (17-5 overall, 4-0 in the North Iowa Cedar League West Division and ranked No. 8 this week in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Class 2A rankings) downed West Marshall 25-13, 25-14, 25-10 in a well-played match Tuesday.
“We started slow and then would build and go with it,” Spartan coach Darwin Sents said. “We were working on trying to get some consistency — we want to try to get the offense going and picked up, and it felt like we got some things going.”
