Spartans fall just short at Wapsie Valley

FAIRBANK – Grundy Center head coach Brent Thoren described the first half of the Spartans’ game at Wapsie Valley Friday night the best half of football they had played so far this season. As the young Spartans continue their path toward improvement, they’ll be looking to clean up late in the game errors that have kept that first win at bay.
“Our kids played with effort and emotion, but towards the end of the game we began to have mental mistakes and that took a toll,” Thoren said. “Turnovers and penalties really were the deciding factors. I’m proud of how our kids played going on the road and in a tough environment; we just came up short.”
