Spartans top Postvillle, falter in conference play

AMES – Grundy Center ended the week on a high note with a 64-45 win over Postville in an Iowa Showcase tournament game Saturday night, after suffering a pair of NICL West losses earlier in the week. The Spartans fell to South Hardin 69-60 and Hudson 69-52.
Grundy Center (7-10 overall, 5-6 NICL West) has a light week this week, with just one game on Friday when they take on East Marshall at Le Grand.

Grundy Center wasted no time in adjusting to an unfamiliar opponent in unfamiliar territory Saturday. After an even 32-32 first half with Postville, the Spartans owned the second half, outplaying the Pirates 14-6 in the third quarter and 18-7 in the fourth to take the win.
“We got ourselves in foul trouble early,” Grundy Center head coach Rollie Ackerman said. “Once we made the adjustment to how the game was being called and figured out what Postville was doing both offensively and defensively, we were able to pull away and get a nice win.”
