Pre-Christmas weekend in Grundy Center brings fun for the whole family
GRUNDY CENTER – This weekend is sure to a busy one, packed with all sorts of festive cheer around town, as the Festival of Trees and Village of Lights committees have come together to organize a special Pre-Christmas Weekend in Grundy Center.
“We are excited that the Festival of Trees and Village of Lights have combined into one weekend this year,” said longtime Festival of Trees committee member Mary Schmidt. “We're looking forward to a weekend packed full of free and low cost activities. Why leave town when you can have so much fun right here? This will truly make for a memorable weekend in Grundy Center.”
The Pre-Christmas weekend will feature a variety of festive events, which will be held from Friday through Sunday.
The annual Festival of Trees attraction will be open for display at the Grundy Community Center from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The public is encouraged to stop by and see over 40 beautifully decorated trees from local businesses, organizations and citizens.
This year’s theme for the trees is “A few of my favorite things.”
“The Festival of Trees entries are not professionally done - they are personal, and offer a peak into the lives and homes of our small town people,” Schmidt said.
There is no admission cost for those wishing to see the trees on display, but the committee does collect freewill donations, which will be used for community betterment. This year’s funds will be used to purchase way finding signs for the highway through town, such as an arrow for the library, or the school.
