Supervisors approve Morrison land swap

After a brief public hearing on Monday morning, the Grundy County Board of Supervisors agreed to move forward with a land swap between the county conservation board and the Cooley family.

As previously discussed, the conservation department will acquire the property at 310 Fourth Street with two buildings: one will house a shop, and the other will be used as overflow storage for the museum in Morrison. In return, the Cooleys will receive the property at 102 Railroad Street and $100,000.

A public hearing has been set for next week’s meeting on the potential vacation of a portion of Westbrook Street east of Highway 57 in the far northeast corner of the county.

During his report, County Engineer Gary Mauer noted that he’ll have additional graders helping out with drying the roads and took a question regarding state laws against burning brush in ditches.
