Supervisors approve senior living facility at Conrad mansion

A large home north of Conrad will officially become an independent senior living facility after the Grundy County Board of Supervisors approved a rezone request from owner Jeff Mossman during Monday morning’s regular meeting.
Mossman first received approval from the county’s planning and zoning commission three weeks ago after presenting to that board, and though he wasn’t in attendance Monday, zoning administrator Carie Sager explained the plans for the facility, which will not be authorized to provide medical care (Mossman plans to contract with NuCara Pharmacy and the Central Iowa Healthcare clinic in Conrad for those arrangements) and will have 10 beds available. A hired chef will provide the meals, and Sager said that Mossman envisions the home as a transition between living alone and moving into assisted living or nursing home facilities, which provide more services and are more strictly regulated.
