The Grundy County Board of Supervisors approved the purchases of a Dodge SLT pickup truck and a 2018 John Deere 650K Crawler Dozer during Monday morning’s regular meeting.

The Dodge bid came from Rouse Motors of Grundy Center and was the only one that fully met the outlined specifications. The net cost is $32,687, and the county will have the option of a $5,000 trade-in on a Ram it currently owns.

County Engineer Gary Mauer originally recommended that the county go with a used 2016 dozer with 871 hours on it at a net cost of $113,000 (with a $25,000 trade-in), but supervisor Harlyn Riekena suggested that they purchase a new one at a net cost of $138,850 to ensure more use. An original motion to buy the used dozer failed on a 2-2 vote (Jim Ross was absent), and the second motion to buy the new one passed 3-1, with Barb Smith opposing.
