Project Coordinator Adam Rodenberg spoke to the Grundy County Board of Supervisors on Monday morning about developments with the Middle Cedar Watershed and what the future holds for the group.

According to Rodenberg, the watershed covers 1.5 million acres in 10 counties between the north side of Cedar Rapids and the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area, and $11.2 million in funding has been allotted for water quality improvement and flooding mitigation projects.

“It’s a quite extensive area with quite a few different unique issues,” Rodenberg said. “We’re bringing people together in cities and communities as well as agricultural (areas).”

Currently, the group has 27 board members, and Rodenberg added that they are contracting with a watershed engineering firm based in the Twin Cities to draw up plans, but no new conservation practices have been implemented yet.
