Sweet treats: New ice cream shop opens in Grundy Center

GRUNDY CENTER - The people of Grundy Center have spoken: they wanted ice cream, and now they have ice cream … along with malts, milkshakes, sno cones, and other sweet treats available at the community’s newest business: Sweet Tooth Icy Treats.

Located in the former Grundy Motor building at 1309 G Avenue, Sweet Tooth Icy Treats opened for business late last month and has been teeming with customers ever since.

Vern Folkedahl, who owns the building, says the ice cream shop is a partnership between him and his 9-year-old granddaughter Jenna Blythe.

“The whole thing was Jenna’s idea,” Folkedahl said. “After I bought the building and was renovating it, she came in one day and asked if she could sell snow cones out of here in the summer. I had nothing planned for this particular spot in the building, so I said why not? Her idea was as good as any other idea.”

So, the two sat down and planned out the business venture, bringing the whole business to life in just a matter of a few months.
