Big improvements are in the works for Elmwood Park in Reinbeck, as a group of volunteers hope to raise a total of $45,000 to replace the aging playground equipment at the park.

Erin Schildroth, a local resident who is helping in the fundraising campaign, said the park is long overdue for upgrades.

“Elmwood Park is the only park in town with playground equipment, and the equipment is over 30 years old, so it’s due for some upgrades,” she said. “There are a lot of parents with young kids who visit the playground, so we’re hoping to add some equipment for the younger kids as well so we can have some equipment for both older and younger play.”

As a joint project between the City and local volunteers, the group has already raised over $23,000 with the help of grants and donations from local organizations, foundations and businesses.
