A Waterloo woman who was convicted of felony theft in a Grundy County jury trial earlier this year plans to appeal the decision to the Iowa Supreme Court, according to recently filed documents.

Shawn Marie Eastman-Adams, now 46 years old, was arrested in 2018 and charged with stealing a John Deere lawn tractor, a horse buggy, a wood chipper, tools and a stock trailer from a residence west of Dike near The Mill between December 4 and December 7, 2017.

In April, a jury found her guilty of Second Degree Theft, a Class D felony with an enhancement for habitual offender status, and she was sentenced to five years in prison with a three-year mandatory minimum. The total value of the stolen items is valued at between $1,000 and $10,000.
