Local organization donates funds to Operation Threshold
GRUNDY CENTER – A brand new group – 100+ Women Who Care in Grundy County – has banded together to support local causes and organizations around the county, just in time for the holiday season.
The group describes themselves as a passionate group of local women who each are committed to contributing $100 three times a year to local nonprofit organizations.
They gather at three meetings yearly for one hour to hear three short presentations on nonprofits in Grundy County. Members then vote on which organization to donate to, and each person writes a check for $100 directly to the chosen organization for a collective, impactful donation.
The group of 31 women held their first meeting in late November, and raised $3,100 – which they chose to donate to the Operation Threshold food pantry.
Jaynie Mason, Operation Threshold Grundy County Program Manager, said the organization is very appreciative of the donation, which goes to help food-insecure families right here in the county.
"We are so grateful for this gift, which will allow us to purchase much needed food,” Mason said. “We serve about 80 food-insecure families in Grundy County each month.”
Erin Schildroth, a member of 100+ Women Who Care in Grundy County, said that not only is the group a great way to meet other women in the area, but to make a positive impact on the community at the same time.
“It’s a great way for women across Grundy County to come together, meet other women, visit with friends, and make a big immediate impact on a nonprofit organization in the County in just one hour,” she said. “It’s fabulous to see women of all ages from communities across all of Grundy County come together in excitement to support projects right here in our local communities. The group also has a very low time commitment and, at just three hours a year, is something that can more easily be added to a busy schedule.”
