Generosity will allow needy kids to have seconds

GRUNDY CENTER — Thanks to the generosity of local church-goers, all Grundy Center Community School District students will have the chance to have seconds during school lunch.
Phil Dicks, pastor at the Grundy Center United Methodist Church, said the idea to provide funds so that students on free- and reduced-price lunch could have seconds came from a meeting with school administrators. He said current federal school lunch guidelines have a prescribed calorie limit for meals that is very low … not enough to fill many students up.
“When the other kids went back to get seconds, these kids on free- and reduced lunch had to just sit and watch them eat,” Dicks said.
