DIKE — Dike-New Hartford senior Zach Nicholson knew he had a chance for some very nice awards at Tuesday’s senior awards assembly. The first one he received may have the most meaning.
Nicholson was surprised with the first award at Tuesday morning’s ceremony, the Iowa Football Coaches’ Assocaition’s Ed Thomas Faith, Family Football Award.
“I was very surprised, I did not expect this,” Nicholson said after receiving the award from IFCA President-Elect Steve Milder. “It was a very nice award and I was honored to receive it.”
The award is named in honor of former Aplington-Parkersburg football coach Ed Thomas and honors his legacy by focusing on an athlete’s character and church-related activities. Students are nominated by their coach and must then submit an application and a recommendation from their pastor or someone else related to the church.
