A bit of local history finds it’s way home to Grundy Center

GRUNDY CENTER – The name Herbert Quick is known all across Iowa, and he is perhaps one of the most notable authors to hail from the state; famous for his novels about the life and hardships of early pioneers on the Iowa prairie.
As most anyone from around the area already knows, Herbert Quick was born, raised and educated right here in Grundy County. In fact, the schoolhouse where he gained his education and began his teaching career is now located right here in Grundy Center, at Orion Park.
Because of this, the name Herbert Quick is almost synonymous with Grundy County – so that’s what made it so special when Randy Steig, a retired banker from Des Moines, discovered two antique Herbert Quick books and decided to donate them to the Grundy Center Historical Society.
