Area athletes play in NICL Senior Series

REINBECK – Seniors from North Iowa Cedar League schools got a chance to let loose a little while also getting one more chance to play on the high school hardwood at the NICL Senior Games at Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School on Friday night.
The NICL East won both games – the girls triumphed 53-48 and the boys held on for a 101-98 shootout – but for players like AGWSR senior and West MVP Nathan Karsjens, fun was had by all.
“It’s a great experience, a lot of guys I played AAU with,” said Karsjens, who scored a game-high 23 points for the West. “It’s great to come back as friends instead of competitors.”
Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s Tyler Pierce added 16 points and Grundy Center’s Chase Boren scored 14 points to round out the double-digit scorers for the West side. East MVP Ethan Wyant of Jesup scored 22 points, with J-Hawks teammate Tyler Lienau contributing 17 points and Broden Coulter of Dike-New Hartford pouring in 15 points.
AGWSR’s Maddie Brandt led the West with 16 points as the team’s MVP, while Sam Ubben and Skylar Veldhouse of BCLUW scored six and five points, respectively.
More information on Friday's games, including more photos and full box scores, are available in the March 23 Register.
