GRUNDY CENTER – Two months after the former First Baptist Church was demolished by a wrecking crew, the dust has settled, and a new beginning for the property is already starting to take form.
At Monday night’s meeting, the Grundy Center city council voted unanimously to accept a bid from Echo Development out of Cedar Falls to purchase the former Baptist Church lot for $20,000.
According to Cory Henke, a partner with Echo Development, the group has plans to construct a five-plex apartment building on the property.
Henke said representatives from Echo have met with several key opinion leaders in the Grundy Center area, and decided that they wanted to jump onto the opportunity to develop in town.
“We’re super excited for this opportunity,” Henke said. “It’s an excellent community, and you see a lot of businesses that are successful and thriving. It’s vibrant, and it has a reputation for being a great place to live. You just don’t hear a lot of negative things about Grundy Center, so when the opportunity came up, we decided to jump on it.”
