An eight-year-old boy from rural Cedar Falls has died after a single vehicle ATV accident on Tuesday morning in Grundy County.

According to a police report, Micah Jones was driving a 2016 Mudhead Hammerhead ATV northbound in a farmyard between Dike, New Hartford and Cedar Falls at 11:55 a.m. when he drove over a retaining wall and flipped the vehicle. He was taken to Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls, where he was pronounced dead.

His passenger, also eight years old and from Cedar Falls, was treated for minor injuries and released. Grundy County Sheriff Rick Penning told The Grundy Register that he did not know specifics of how the accident unfolded.

The incident remains under investigation, and the Dike Ambulance and Sartori Paramedics assisted at the scene. An obituary indicated that Jones was entering his third grade year as a home-schooled student, and a funeral is scheduled for Saturday, August 12, at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home on Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
