DES MOINES – The members of the Dike-New Hartford boys track and field team, even while navigating uncharted waters in pursuit of the team's first-ever state title, acted like they had been there before.

Several of the Wolverines could boast plenty of Drake Stadium experience and competed like they were on a three-day business trip. By Saturday afternoon, they had accomplished everything necessary to bring home a state team title in Class 2A, the first in D-NH school history, and continue an impressive school year for boys athletics.

Spurred by state titles in the long jump, shuttle hurdle relay and 4x400 relay, the Wolverines scored 60 points to win the title over Williamsburg (51) and South Central Calhoun (47). D-NH added runner-up finishes in the 110 and 400 hurdles and the sprint medley and a bronze in the 4x200 relay.

"These kids have put in a lot of time and effort in all sports and all the expectations we have at Dike-New Hartford," D-NH head coach Will Reingardt said. "Our motto was Together Everyone Achieves More, or TEAM for short. We showcased that this weekend."

New Hartford tied with BCLUW for the team title in 1982 while Dike had never won a team title as a separate school district. But together with New Hartford, they all achieved more with an outright title.
