Supervisors approve bridge repair, pavement-marking contracts

The Grundy County Board of Supervisors approved contracts for pavement markings and a bridge repair project during Monday morning’s regular meeting, along with pest control and a proposal for bollards to protect two gas meters on county property.
           
After the engineer’s office reviewed bids for pavement markings, the board voted unanimously to move forward with Highway Signing Inc. of Council Bluffs at a cost of $87,854.09. This is the company’s first project in Grundy County. They also finalized a contract with PCI for the repair of Bridge C26 in Pleasant Valley Township at a cost of $92,500.
           
Now that Highway 14 is officially closed between Grundy Center and the Holland turnoff, Supervisor Jim Ross expressed concern to Assistant County Engineer Steve Cox that trucks will struggle to make the turn onto M Avenue, and he added that there are “so many detour signs” along the county road that intersects with T29 at Kitzman’s Corner between Beaman and Grundy Center that it’s hard to see the stop sign.
