GRUNDY COUNTY – During a season of giving, one local organization was the recipient of a very generous gift.
Kaden’s Kloset, an organization that provides clothing and resources to foster and adoptive families locally, was recently chosen as the lucky recipient of a $19,000 donation from the philanthropic group “100+ Men and Women Who Care in the Cedar Valley.”
Kaden’s Kloset founder and Holland resident Kristle Davis said she was stunned when she found out that Kaden’s Kloset would receive the donation.

Rebels repeat in Class A football

CEDAR FALLS – Matt Johannsen’s first career touchdown will also likely be his most memorable.
The Gladbrook-Reinbeck junior caught a 24-yard pass from Hunter Lott midway through the fourth quarter and took it to the end zone, scoring the eventual game-winner for the Rebels as they won their second-consecutive Class A football title, holding off Bishop Garrigan of Algona for a 20-19 win at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls last Thursday.

Martin shares hometown, family stories during Conrad library visit

Tom Martin has deep roots in the Conrad community. A native and 1961 Beaman-Conrad graduate, he is the son of a former Conrad mayor and the father of the current one, Jeff Martin. Although he now resides in Iowa City, his hometown plays a crucial role in informing the experiences that became “Stories My Kids Are Tired of Hearing,” a memoir that was published earlier this year. Martin stopped at the Conrad Public Library last Thursday night to explain the process of writing the book and sign copies for the 16 audience members in attendance.

Comets take home third straight cheer dance title

A tradition of excellence continues for the cheerleading program at BCLUW High School, as the Comets took home their third straight title in the cheer dance category for their routine at the state championships in Des Moines on Saturday, November 5.

After winning in Class 1A the last two years, BCLUW bumped up to 2A and won again, besting 12 other schools in their class for the top prize. The Comets also had one stunt group win first place, and another took second. For coach Kelly Trinkle, winning a championship is just as sweet every year.
