John E. Schlemmer, 83, of Grundy Center, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Creekside Living in Grundy Center, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Private family services will take place and John’s final place of rest will be at the Rosehill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memories of John and messages of condolences may be left for the family at www.abelsfuneralhomes.com Any memorials given to the family, will be donated to a charity or organization of their choice.

John Edwin Peters

John Edwin Peters (30) of Wellsburg, Iowa went home to his Savior in heaven on April 17, 2021 at his family farm in rural Wellsburg. His Mom, Janice, his Dad, Paul and brother, Andy were with him when he passed. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 21 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wellsburg from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow the service at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in Rural Wellsburg. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Winona Mae Lauterbach

Winona Mae Lauterbach, 86, of Waterloo, died Monday, April 12, 2021, at her home following a brief illness.

She was born December 14, 1934, in Grundy County, the daughter of Adolph B. and Grace (Werkman) Van Deest. Winona graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1953. She married Stanley Lauterbach on May 25, 1956 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center.

Mary Anne Dalton, 85, of Reinbeck, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, April 9, 2021 at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, Iowa.

Linda Mason

Linda Mason, 55, of Grundy Center, formerly of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Creekside Living in Grundy Center.

Linda was born on December 6, 1965, in Des Moines to Dwaine and Nancy Damon.

She married Charles Mason in 1983 and later divorced. Linda was blessed with eight children: Charles Jr, Kelly, Kara, Cory, Elizabeth, Seaira, John and Cheryl and seventeen grandchildren.

She is survived by a brother, David (Mary) Bramon of Des Moines and a sister, Brenda (Phil) Bowen of Reinbeck. Also, several nieces and nephews.

Lawrence Kahler

Lawrence Noble Kahler, 92 of Garwin, Iowa passed away Monday, March 29, 2021 at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad. Funeral services were 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 6 at the Garwin Christian Church in Garwin. Visitation was 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services at the church. Lawernce entered the world on January 21, 1929 at the family home east of Garwin. He is the son of Noble Kahler and Rose (Goette) Kahler.

Duane A. Jans Jr., 75, of Norman, Oklahoma, formerly of Reinbeck passed away on the afternoon of Friday, March 12, 2021 with his loving family by his side.

Delbert VanHauen

Delbert VanHauen of Caldonia, MN passed away March 12, 2021.
He was born at Allen Hospital in Waterloo to Herman and Martha VanHauen on April 25, 1953. He attended school in Wellsburg, IA.
He enjoyed woodworking, painting and spending time with his loved ones.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Martha VanHauen.

Alice Hinders

Alice M. Hinders, age 91, of Middleton, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, March 10, 2021. She was born on March 30, 1929, in Marshalltown, Iowa, daughter of Emil and Dena (Grimmius) Stickfort. Alice attended school in Holland and Grundy Center, graduating in 1947. She married Marvin Ray Hinders on April 5, 1949, at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church parsonage.
Alice worked for several years at the Spokesman Press in Grundy Center.  In 1961 Alice and Marvin moved to Reinbeck. From 1967 until her retirement in 1991 she worked in housekeeping at Parkview Manor.

Emma Kalkwarf

Emma D. Kalkwarf, 91, of Grundy Center, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Creekside Living in Grundy Center, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church. The burial will follow services at the Rosehill Cemetery in Grundy Center.
