Retrieving Freedom: GC veteran shares story of healing with help from service dog

GRUNDY CENTER - During this year’s Veterans Day ceremony at the Grundy Center High School, local veteran Trent Dirks spoke about his process of healing from the traumas of war with help from his service dog Tracer.

Dirks grew up in Grundy Center and joined the military in 2006. In 2010, he was deployed to a high conflict area in Afghanistan. For Dirks, it was a hard deployment, but what he didn’t expect was how hard it would be to come home.
