Gordon named Felix Grundy Grand Marshal

GRUNDY CENTER – Local resident Bruce Gordon has a long history of involvement with the Felix Grundy Festival. More than thirty years ago, he was a member of the committee that first started the festival, and he’s continued his involvement in one form or another ever since.

But this year, the festival will be a particularly special one for Gordon, who has been chosen to lead the festivities as the 2019 Felix Grundy Grand Marshal.

GRUNDY CENTER - A new construction project has kicked off in downtown Grundy Center, as work commences on the new duplex being built on the former First Baptist Church lot across from the courthouse.

Back in November, Lance Moeller of Moeller Concrete and Landscaping won a bid to purchase the property from the City of Grundy Center with plans to build a single story duplex on the lot.

His crew has been on the site the last couple of weeks doing groundwork in preparation for the big build.

City reduces tree dump hours

GRUNDY CENTER - After ongoing issues of trash and other non-complying items being left at the local tree dump site, the City of Grundy Center has changed the hours for the site.

Bridging the gap: Upcoming soil health workshop aims to bridge urban-rural divide

Since local farmer Fred Abels, retired Waterloo schoolteacher and Grundy County landowner Clark Porter, Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) board members and employees at the Grundy Center Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) office launched a collaborative effort to address water quality in the area, it’s been a gradual march toward progress. And now that more farmers are coming onboard, they’re hoping to engage city dwellers on practices that can reduce runoff and pollution as well.

To infinity and beyond!

Compared to most of the people who read this newspaper (and all newspapers, statistically), I’m still pretty young, but I sure felt old walking into “Toy Story 4” with Kellie and Wyllo on Friday for opening night at the Center Theater and realizing that I was once the anxious child who couldn’t wait to see Buzz and Woody on the big screen.
