BCLUW softball defeats Grundy Center 1-0 (PHOTOS)

GRUNDY CENTER – Megan Yantis doesn't want the BCLUW softball team to get caught flat-footed on a day where one run might not be enough.

As it turned out, the Comets head coach admitted a win was a win as BCLUW claimed a 1-0 victory against Grundy Center, the second-consecutive game where the Comets, ranked fifth in Class 1A, had won an NICL West matchup with a single run after Monday's 1-0 win at home against West Marshall.

GRUNDY CENTER – The opportunity would be there for Grundy Center baseball, Pat Brown figured.

The Spartan head coach knows the extra workload his baseball players have taken on, and how that would eventually translate into a late-game offensive surge, scoring seven runs in the sixth inning to put Wednesday's NICL West matchup with BCLUW out of reach, 9-1, at the George Wilhelm Sports Complex.

D-NH baseball rallies twice against A-P (PHOTOS)

DIKE – Most scoring deficits are going to feel tame for Dike-New Hartford baseball this summer.

The Wolverines showed that they could erase a 10-run deficit on the road at Charles City on June 7, and D-NH needed to find a way exactly one week later when rival Aplington-Parkersburg came to town.

The Falcons brought some of the toughest challenges the Wolverines have faced yet, but a couple of rallies kept D-NH out of the loss column with an NICL East sweep at Dike-New Hartford High School.

D-NH softball settles for split (PHOTOS)

DIKE – Dike-New Hartford softball was aggressive in a 14-4 victory over Aplington-Parkersburg in Game 1 of an NICL East doubleheader on Friday night, but the Falcons answered with a 7-6 win in Game 2, holding off a late Wolverine rally as D-NH split with the Falcons at Dike-New Hartford High School.

The Wolverines scored two runs in the seventh and had the potential tying run at second with one out, but A-P's Makenna Brouwer made a nice catch on a pop fly to shallow center for the second out and Falcons pitcher Hailey DeVries got the third out to end D-NH's late threat.
