Trinkle named ICCA Coach of the Year

Cheerleading has been a lifelong passion for BCLUW coach Kelly Trinkle, and others have taken notice as she was recently informed that she will receive the Iowa Cheerleading Coach’s Association’s Coach of the Year Award at a banquet in April.
           
“I had never really thought about getting it or receiving it. I was super surprised, but very honored,” Trinkle said.
           

Wellsburg welcomes new fire truck

After almost five years of planning and 1,100 miles of travel, the city of Wellsburg has a new fire truck, the third in its arsenal, and fire chief Greg Winger and mayor Cami Nederhoff spoke to The Grundy Register about the long process late last week.
           
“We’re very excited,” Nederhoff said. “We found a piece of equipment that not only balances the taxpayer dollars within the city of Wellsburg as well as the needs of the fire department.”
           

Spartan girls pull away late to outlast Mustangs

The Grundy Center girls overcame a sluggish first half and pulled away late to pick up a 46-33 home conference win over East Marshall last Friday night and sweep the season series with the Mustangs.
           
“I don’t know if we really ever got going, but we were able to make a few baskets on the tail end there,” Grundy Center coach Matt Lindeman said.
           

BCLUW board makes reviews summer projects, makes hire to replace Hoy

The BCLUW board of education discussed some summer projects and hired a replacement for longtime facilities director Barry Hoy at last Wednesday morning’s regular meeting.
           

Spartan girls escape nail-biter with Wolverines

A win is a win, no matter how you get it, and Grundy Center girls’ basketball coach Matt Lindeman was excited to head into break with a victory after his team defeated Dike-New Hartford 34-31 last Thursday night in cross-divisional NICL action.
           
“Everybody stepped up at different times and played a key role in this win. It was nice to finish that,” Grundy Center coach Matt Lindeman said. “We didn’t play real well, but we found a way to win.”
           

Fire consumes confinement building outside of Wellsburg

A fire brought down a hog confinement building outside of Wellsburg at about 6:00 p.m. last Tuesday night, but a crew of firefighters from Grundy Center, Wellsburg and Holland was able to get it under control.
           

Salvation Army looks to grow in Grundy County

During the holiday season, the Salvation Army has become a ubiquitous presence across the country: the organization is known for placing bell ringers outside of major shopping centers, and it got a national plug last Sunday when Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott jumped into a life-size kettle on the field after scoring a touchdown. What people may not know, however, is that the Salvation Army actually has a chapter in Grundy County, and local representative Jane Katzer of rural Conrad is hoping to increase its outreach to help more families in need.
