New Hartford welcomes RAGBRAI® riders

NEW HARTFORD — More than 10,000 visitors made tiny New Hartford one of the biggest small towns in America last Wednesday, as the community served as a pass-through town for the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, better known as RAGBRAI@.

Rebels fall in state tourney opener

DES MOINES – The Gladbrook-Reinbeck Rebels closed out their final athletic season of the 2014-15 school year with an appearance in the Class 1A state baseball tournament last Friday. Their state tournament bid follows a second place finish at the state football tournament, a state title in basketball, a third place showing at the state soccer tournament, and individual qualifiers for the state track and field meet.

STATE CHAMPS - Cougars dominate state final

FORT DODGE – AGWSR showed off its power and left no doubt to the outcome of the Class 1A state championship game early on Friday, July 24.
The Cougars put their hitting shoes on against Logan-Magnolia and emerged state champions at last after three straight trips to the state tournament with a dominating 12-0 win in three innings.
Ashley Sicard hit a two-run home run, her battery mate Jami Johnson added another that started an eight-run third, and the rout was on against the Panthers.

Virtus Boege Ramundt

Virtus Boege Ramundt, 80, of Reinbeck passed away July 24, 2015. The funeral service was held on July 28 at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ, 225 Broad Street, Reinbeck. Beryl Eugene Manlick

Beryl Eugene Manlick, 76, passed away with his family by his side on July 23, 2015, at the Parkview Manor in Reinbeck while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service was held on July 27 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Reinbeck with Pastor Troy Peperkorn officiating. Visitation was held July 26 from 4 to 6 PM at the French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. Burial followed the funeral service at the Reinbeck Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Orchard Hill Church begins work on new home

    GRUNDY CENTER — Ten years ago, a group of about 20 Grundy County families had a vision for the future. Sunday that vision took a huge step forward as Orchard Hill Church broke ground on it’s new Grundy Center worship center at the corner of M Avenue and Highway 14.
    The half hour ceremony featured prayers for the project as well as gospel music and the laying of stones as a memorial to the Lord. It concluded with ceremonial first shovels of dirt, first by the children of the church and then by project leaders.
