Shooting set to begin Thursday on film set in Grundy Center

    GRUNDY CENTER —Shooting for a movie set in Grundy Center will begin this week at locations throughout the community.
    The movie titled “Promise Me” will feature more than 35 local actors and actresses.
    According to director Scott Thompson in correspondence with the Grundy Center Chamber of Commerce, “the story is a comedy with heart, about a middle-aged couple whose teenage daughter fears that they’ve drifted apart and so decides to do something about that -- but it doesn’t quite turn out as expected.”
 

Allen advises Supervisors of concerns about contract

   GRUNDY CENTER — Grundy County Attorney Erica Allen spoke to the Board of Supervisors Monday about concerns with a contract with AHTS Architects, which is working on plans for a new county annex building.
    Allen’s concerns were regarding language in the contract, particularly numerous instances where it referred to a different contract that is unrelated to the project at hand. She also expressed concern over billing as well as a portion of the contract that deals with claims and disputes.

Virgil John Aukes

On March 31, 2015, Virgil John Aukes, 84, of Waukee passed away at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. Funeral services were April 4 at Faith Lutheran Church in Adel, with family greeting friends one hour prior to services. Local youth to play in Drive, Chip, Putt finals at Augusta National

DIKE — A Dike-New Hartford fourth-grader will live a golfer’s dream this weekend as he competes in the finals of the Drive, Chip and Putt Contest at Augusta National Golf Club, home of The Masters.
    Maxwell Tjoa will compete in the 7-to-9-year-old division of the contest, which will be telecast on The Golf Channel Sunday morning. He qualified for the finals by winning his age group at the local, sub-regional and regional levels last fall.

Board delays action on administrative restructuring

GRUNDY CENTER — More than an hour of debate led to the same lack of answers for the Grundy Center School Board last Wednesday, as the board continues to debate what changes to make in the School District administrative structure in order to save more teachers’ jobs.

Supervisors approve 2015 driveway policy

    GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy County Board of Supervisors Monday approved the 2015 driveway policy during a meeting that consisted of routine business.

Julie A. Oetker, 57, of Grundy Center passed away March 29, 2015, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, while under the care of Unity Point Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 3 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 21275 U Ave., Reinbeck. Burial will follow the service at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2 from 4 to 7 P.M at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to family.

Howard Harry Hockert, 87, of Grundy Center passed away March 24, 2015, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. A private memorial service was held by the family. Leslie C. Green, 85, of Conrad passed away March 22, 2015, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services were March 27 at the Conrad United Methodist Church in Conrad. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m., March 26 at the Conrad Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes, in Conrad. Pastor Gene Kubli officiated with interment in the Conrad Memorial Cemetery. Esther Knock Borden, 97, of St. Paul, MN died peacefully on March 15, 2015.
