Spartans, Cougars kick off football season Friday

GRUNDY CENTER — The 2013 high school football season kicks off in Grundy Center Friday with the renewal of an area rivalry. Grundy Center and AGWSR open against one another the week before most teams start for the fourth consecutive year.

Both teams return talent on both sides of the ball. The Spartans feature a returning starter at quarterback and a pair of former all-staters in the lineup while AGWSR returns a pair of quarterbacks with starting experience and four of five starters from an outstanding offensive line.

Back to school time!

The Grundy Center Community School District hosted its annual Open Houses at its Elementary and Secondary buildings. The event was the first time kindergarteners had a chance to meet their new teachers and see their new classrooms.   In this photo, Kayla Corbett finds her picture on the wall in Mrs. Johnson’s classroom. Former Grassley chief seeking Harkin Senate seat

GRUNDY CENTER — David Young may not be the most familiar name in the race for the United States Senate seat that Democrat Tom Harkin will retire from at the end of his current term. But the Republican from Van Meter is looking to change that during a blitz that has seen him visit 50 of Iowa’s 99 counties in the past 62 days.
