GRUNDY CENTER – Alex Kiewiet captured medalist honors with a four-over-par 76 Saturday, leading Grundy Center to second place at its own Bob Schmadeke Invitational at the Town and Country Golf Club.
The Spartans shot 326 over 18 holes, coming in 12 shots behind tournament champion Cascade.
Grundy Center played without its usual No. 1 and former state champion Judd Jirovsky, who was participating in the 4 x 100-meter relay at the Drake Relays Saturday morning.
Other Spartan scores included rounds of 82 by Eli Wegmann, 83 by Evan Blythe, 85 by Jaxon Kiewiet, 86 by Weston Martens and 94 by Christian Langan.
Grundy Center’s scheduled dual meet against Oelwein was postponed Thursday and is listed as makeup date to be determined.
The Spartans play in the Aplington-Parkersburg Tournament Wednesday.

Comet boys golfers third in West Marshall tourney
STATE CENTER – Zaden Eggers shot an 18-hole round of 80 last Monday as the BCLUW boys golf team placed third in the 12-team West Marshall tournament.
East Marshall won the meet with a round of 326 while PCM (342), the Comets (349) and Boone (354) rounded out the top four.
Beau Towne added a round of 87 for the Comets while Eathan Petermeier shot 91.
Thursday’s scheduled meet against Cedar Ridge Christian and Colo-Nesco was postponed with no makeup date announced.
The Comets played at Hampton-Dumont-Cal Monday, were at North Tama Tuesday and host Clarksville and Don Bosco in triangular play Thursday.

AGWSR boys top Dike-New Hartford, Jesup
WELLSBURG – The AGWSR boys golfers took advantage of playing on their home course last week, topping both Dike-New Hartford and Jesup in dual play Tuesday and Thursday.
The Cougars topped D-NH 169-181 as Trace EIten captured medalist honors with a round of 40. Remington Kerns shot 42, Tristen Dennis 43 and Lane Rose 44. They downed Jesup 180-182 as Tyler Nederhoff and Lane Olson shot 44 each.
Monday the Cougars tied for second in a triangular with a round of 188. South Hardin shot 187 to take first place while both AGWSR and Iowa Falls-Alden shot 188. Eiten was meet medalist with a round of 40.
The Cougars played in the Aplington-Parkersburg Tournament Wednesday at in a triangular at Gladbrook-Reinbeck Thursday.

Rebel boys golfers top Denver
Freshman Laken Thesing shot 40 and junior Brayden Utter 41 last Thursday as the Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys golf team surprised Denver, 169-176 at the Oakleaf Country Club.
The loss was the first of the season for Denver while G-R improved to 8-16.
Tyson Blohm added a round of 43 for the winners while Chad Gutknecht shot 45.
G-R also played in tournaments Monday at West Marshall and Tuesday at Roland-Story, placing 10th and fifth. Blohm led the Rebels with a round of 89 at West Marshall and Anthony Knaack shot 78 to pace the Rebels at Roland-Story.
G-R played at Jesup Monday and at East Marshall Tuesday before hosting triangulars both Thursday and Friday.

Downs leads Dike-New Hartford
DIKE – Junior Brayson Downs shot a pair of team-leading rounds last week, leading the Dike-New Hartford boys golf team in duals at AGWSR and Columbus Catholic.
The Wolverines fell to AGWSR 169-181 at the Meadowbrook Golf Course in Wellsburg. Downs led the Wolverines shot 42 while Tanner Mikkelsen had a round of 44 and Kaleb Rindels a 46.
Thursday D-NH fell to defending Class 2A state champion Columbus Catholic 158-198 at the Gates Park Golf Course. Downs shot 45 to lead the Wolverines while Skylar Sullivan shot 49.
The Wolverines played in a triangular Tuesday at the Aplington Recreation Center and then in the Aplington-Parkersburg Tournament Wednesday at Legend Trail. They host Wapsie Valley in dual play Friday at the Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.
