DIKE-NEW HARTFORD 58, DENVER 35: The Wolverines hit seven of 18 three-pointers in a rout of the Cyclones.

D-NH senior Katie Knock led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-6 made from 3-point range.

Ellie Foster contributed 12 points, and team-leading marks in rebounds (5) and assists (6).

D-NH led 18-3 after one quarter and 32-15 at the halftime break.

AGWSR 39, APLINGTON-PARKERSBURG 35: The Cougars were boosted by a good third quarter in the cross-NICL win at A-P High School.

SHEFFIELD – The game firmly in hand, Class 3A No. 3 Dike-New Hartford had something special to celebrate.

Senior Ellie Foster reached the 1,000-point career scoring mark with a basket at the 3 minute, 2 second mark of the third quarter against West Fork on Thursday, Jan. 9.

“She’s worked so hard over her career and she’s a true gym rat,” Wolverine head coach Bruce Dall said, “and for her to get her 1,000th point, that says a lot about her and a lot about the team to be able to get her the ball and be able to get her 1,000th tonight.

ACKLEY – Ali Gerbracht wanted to make sure she earned her 100th victory on the wrestling mats.

"I didn't want it to be a forfeit," Gerbracht said. "That would've been lame."

The AGWSR senior got her wish, pinning Hudson's Brody King in 23 seconds for win number 100 as part of an AGWSR triangular with Hudson and Dike-New Hartford on Thursday.

Hudson won the dual, 42-29. Dike-New Hartford won twice, 57-24 against AGWSR and 37-36 against Hudson.

Gerbracht, wrestling at 106 pounds, becomes the second female in Iowa history to reach 100 wins, following South Winneshiek's Felicity Taylor who hit the mark in 2018. Taylor is currently wrestling for McKendree University's women's wrestling team in Lebanon, Illinois.

"She's definitely someone to look up to, to try to follow in her footsteps," Gerbracht said. "She made a lot of impact and I hope to keep following that."

ACKLEY – The AGWSR boys basketball team had lost four games by eight points or less coming into a Jan. 7 game against Grundy Center at AGWSR High School.

The Spartans and Cougars were playing close in the fourth quarter, and AGWSR first-year head coach Ryley Schipper didn't want to see the Cougars let this one slip away.

"I challenged the guys, told them that we've been in these kinds of games all year," Schipper said. "Why don't we go out and win this one?"

Grundy Center battled to force overtime, but a scoring run to start the extra period helped AGWSR hold on for a 73-72 victory over the Spartans.
