Grundy Center Elementary cited on recent SINA list

    GRUNDY CENTER — Grundy Center Elementary students are lagging behind on reading scores. So says a key assessment that has landed the school on the No Child Left Behind Act’s School in Need of Assistance (SINA) list.

Lindeman, Graham named GCHS Homecoming Queen, King

Grundy Center kicks off Main Street program

GRUNDY CENTER — The City of Grundy Center officially kicked off its Main Street program last Thursday during a well-attended program at the Grundy Center Community Center.
    Main Street Grundy Center president John Schuller kicked off the program that included remarks from new Executive Director Kristin Cleveland as well as Main Street Iowa Executive Director Michael Wagler.

Dispute over sidewalk, bushes appears headed for agreement

GRUNDY CENTER — A long-standing dispute between the City of Grundy Center and a citizen appears to be heading toward an agreement.
    Andy King, who lives in the 300 block of Seventh Street, approached the Council about receiving a variance to move a sidewalk that would allow him to keep the bushes at his home.
    “I’ll just get straight to the point and not go back 12 years and (discuss) who’s responsible for what and whatever’s happened,” he said during the public comment portion of the meeting.

Frances Slifer

Frances Leone Slifer, 86, of Wellsburg passed away September 16, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Visitation was held September 20 at the Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. A funeral service was held September 21 at the United Reformed Church in Wellsburg. Burial was held at the Hazel Green Cemetery in Ackley. Memorials may be directed to the family. Richard Lloyd Bonnett

Richard Lloyd Bonnett, 84, of Grundy Center passed away September 8, 2015, at the Grundy Center Memorial Hospital. Visitation was held September 11 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Funeral services were September 12 at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, with burial at a later date in Bussey, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Bonnett family. Dorothy R. Koerner

Dorothy Ruth Koerner, 94, of Groveland, California, died on September 6, 2015. Memorial services will be held at the Groveland Evangelical Free Church on September 21 at 2 PM. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or The Gideons International. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home of Grundy Center assisted the family with local arrangements.
