Erna Toomsen

Erna Toomsen passed away at the age of 82 on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Berdene and her brother, Bernerd and her grandson, Julian.

In the eye of the storm: NWS meteorologist presents weather-spotting seminar in Morrison

Jim Lee has been a weather nerd for as long as he can remember, and he loved it so much that he’s worked for the National Weather Service (NWS) since he graduated from college. Lee, a meteorologist based out of Des Moines, spoke to a group of area residents about the keys to storm spotting during a free presentation at the Grundy County Conservation headquarters in Morrison last Wednesday night.
           

Linda L. Asher

Linda L Asher of Eldora died March 4, 2019, at Valley View Nursing Home in Eldora after a period of declining health. She was cremated as per her request and there will be a burial ceremony at a later date.

Mary Jane Luethje

Mary Jane Luethje, 87, of Gladbrook passed away March 13, 2019, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook. Funeral Services were March 18 at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery in Beaman. 

Marlys Van Hauen

Marlys Ann (Struck) Van Hauen, 81, of Urbandale passed away on February 24, 2019, at Mercy Hospice, Johnston. A memorial gathering will be held Thursday, April 18 from 4-7 PM at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory, 8201 Hickman Rd. Urbandale.  

Mabel Lucille Nederhoff

Mabel Lucille Nederhoff, 99, of Wellsburg passed away on March 16, 2019, at Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls while under the care of Compassus Hospice. A funeral service was held on March 19 at Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg with Pastor Mike Brost officiating.
 

Bob Bouman

Celebration of Life for Bob Bouman, 71 of Tripoli, formerly of Dike, will be held on March 30. The service will begin at 1:00pm at the Tripoli Welcome Center, 100 North Main, Tripoli.

Suspect charged with attempted burglary of Reinbeck bar

A 28-year-old Reinbeck man has been arrested and charged with attempting to rob the 405 Lounge last Monday.
           
According to court records, Austin Ditty, who had worked at the establishment, admitted to county law enforcement officials that he used a pre-paid Visa card twice to gain entry into the locked bar and steal food and liquor. Surveillance video identified him as a suspect, and 405 owner Jack Brandt, who stayed at the bar after it closed, apprehended Ditty.
